Daniel

Daniel is our extra Child. He basically lives at our house while his mom is in nursing school. I have claimed him as mine and get a little protective. I seriously love this boy. He turned two this weekend so I made him a dinosaur cake. Happy Birthday Daniel!

moonstruck

"This looks nothing like the moon.." Josh complained when we pulled into Craters of the Moon parking lot. Yes well. OK he had us on that one. He just didn't know that the coolness was hidden by the sagebrush and two hour long drive to get there because underneath all that was a pretty interesting place.

There are rocks, rocks and more rocks with lots and lots of texture upon texture.

There are also lots of things to read about the lava flow and things that have blown up. COOL. They also have caves you can actually explore, and mile upon mile of walking paths.
Did I say mile upon mile? silly me, I meant hundreds of miles upon miles of walking paths. And all of this is available right outside the booming city of Arco, Idaho. Now before you mock remember that Pickles Cafe is there and serves up a pretty darn good burger...pickles included. So pack up your kids, good walking shoes, Tang and tubes of snack goods and head on out to the desert, It may not look like the moon but it is a little bit of learning right here on earth AND a little cooler that I thought it would be.

School begins

This week school started up for the kids. It has been a contradiction in feelings for me this year. On one hand I'm ready for the kids to get back to school, out of my hair and on to a new and improved schedule. On the other, I've really enjoyed my kids this summer and feel like we just didn't get enough playing in. Also, I kind of miss them. THey are happy to be back though and don't even mind the homework so far. Alex is in 3rd grade this year. He is excited about his teachers. He has two that trade off days and they are on a beach theme this year. Sydney is in 5th grade and has a guy teacher. I'm told he is one of the best there is and she is excited for the change. SHe actually likes homework and is so happy to be back into it. Josh was so happy to get back to middle school this year in 7th grade. He has a locker and 8 different classes and teachers with honors classes that will give him plenty to keep him busy all year.

Megan starts headstart in about 2 weeks. She is SO excited. It will be so fun for her to be able to learn and go to school with the rest of the kids. She even gets to ride the bus! Until then we are enjoying a house that doesn't get dirty in 5 seconds and quite time with afternoon movies, cleaning out closets and organizing my computer.
All in all it is a good change and we are looking forward to a GREAT school year.

Redneckin'it

This summer has been a fun and crazy one. Todd went to Washington for 6 weeks for for an internship with his uncle. This left me single-momin' it. With single mom funds, no air conditioner in my car added with early mornings at the bakery we had to be creative in the things we found to keep busy with this summer. Most of the time was spent the old fashioned way.. riding bikes and hanging out with the neighbor kids, walking to the ice cream store on the corner for soft serve ice cream cones and lots of library time. This weekend we got creative. My friend has a house with a gentle slope on the outskirts of Pocatello. With school coming up we wanted to find something fun to end the summer with and make a few memories. Enter the redneck slip n slide. Talk about a blast! The kids played on this slide for hours. Thanks Alan, You're a GENIUS!

Cinnamin twists and moose poop

Today I made about 200 cinnamin twists for a Moose Biologist convention. Sounds Riviting. I did however enjoy the promos advertised as... "you can't get this sh#* just anywhere.." Yeah, I'll stick to my dry, chapped bakery lips thank You.

Eighteen cups

Sunday we made a houseful of doughnuts. Spudnuts to be exact. Here in Idaho we make them with potatoes. I need to pay attention when Todd asks me if we should double the batch, or when he starts to get overzealous with the potato peeling at lunchtime. By doubling this recipe we used 18 cups of flour. 18 cups. Say it with me... E.I.G.H.T.E.E.N. very good. Now can you say.. What the heck do we do with all these doughnuts? We need more friends. Instead we just passed them out to everyone we know and have ever met or have at least seen or at least heard of and I think we left some on a porch or two hoping someone actually lived there... *SIGH* We did have a lot of fun. Too much fun. Next time we'll keep it under 10 cups...

After a night of eating, singing and enjoying cub scout stuff at the Blue and Gold banquet, the best way to show appreciation is to throw up all over in the church hallway. Josh really, really appreciated the chili. This morning I found this drawing on the back of one of his tablets. I thought it fitting for the evening....

Sugar Cookie Girl

At the bakery this Christmas I was known as "The Sugar Cookie Girl". I've been called worse. With Valentines day approaching the bakery was looking for a new way to display items and entice customers into buying sweets for the sweet. Sugar Cookie Girl to the rescue. I've been making these cookie bouquets for teachers and friends for years. They're Cute, Cheap and Easy. Sounds like a few people I know. I bet you couldn't sell them at the bakery.

Bre Bre and the princess cake

Our cutest little neighbor turned 3 yesterday. Her name is Brelynn, is about the size of a Chihuahua and has a smile that doesn't quit. She has been potty trained for a full year and is already sending her mom into fits for the teenage years. She spends a lot of time with Meg swapping tights and watching barbie princess movies. I thought it only fitting to make her a cake that fit her princess ways but with a little spunk. Here it is in all its glory.. Todd said it looked like the 4th of July threw up in Barbieland... AAHHH perfect.
